"I wouldn't suppose you're wearing pants under that dress? Or might have real cloth hidden out here someplace? C'mon. Walk."
Vin was immediately suspicious. Her day had been full of verified suspicions already, so this was not a good thing.
"I--"
She was pulled away, tripping over the silk of the dress. He guided her down alleyways which she knew fairly well from the times she'd spent practicing her agility as a child in preparation for entering the Academy.
"Don't slow me down, sweetheart. We've got places to be and I've got things to do!"
She could only scoff in disgust. "And you think I don't?" The Reaper could only be downright cantankerous at this point. "Oh, no. Just interrupt my day whenever you please. It's not like I've got classes to study and operations to train for."
"Am I gonna have to rip that dress so you can actually move, or do you have pants?"
"Well, if you would pause a moment." She turned around to face the way she normally came through these alleyways, then glanced around. Darting forward with all the speed she could muster, she soon found one of her old bases--an abandoned house. Carefully opening the door, she peeked inside. Her traps were still in place--made so that she could evade them in a flowing dress, but so that any intruders would probably spring them. She'd hidden clothes in it for when she escaped from her parents and nanny without being able to change from her dress.
Stepping around pressureplates and hiking up her skirts to jump over a tripwire, she made her way to a closet at the back. Vin pulled the door open. Still as she'd left it. Goodness, her traps really had scared off all the local gangs?
Huh. Maybe they were more deadly than she'd anticipated.
She stepped inside the closet and pulled the door closed, changing quickly and effectively. She'd probably have to pick up the dress later. Her nanny would throttle her, Raven Lotus or no, if she lost it.
Making her way out of the building in a black tank top and pants (her usual workout attire), she considered the many ways she could ditch Aaron. He seemed to know his way around this place pretty well, so she probably couldn't lose him. Perhaps she could slip away through one of the secret entrances to the Temple? That would only work if they were going to Lotus Plaza, though. She could go into her personal quarters, which no one could enter without invitation. But then the acolytes might see him... and there was no way he wouldn't be very vocal about their impending marriage with acolytes of the Ninth around.
She'd just have to play along and wait for her chance.
Crossing her arms, she stared, unamused, at Aaron, who was as usual grinning like a maniac and being stupidly irritating in some way or another.
Never before had she wanted the cold embrace of the Ninth more.
