She felt a grin tug at the corners of her lips, but she beat it down with much effort, allowing herself an amused smirk that would have sent any First Year running for the hills. The Headmaster brought out her humour when she was not chasing him, and it showed, her hand lifting to casually push her hair off her shoulder.
"Days like these are why I love my job, Headmaster. Truly."
However, her dry chuckle was cut short when he stepped closer to her, any moisture in her mouth and throat fleeing as he leaned in to whisper to her.
It took an act of great control and a quick glance at the children to focus her mind on his words.
The Principal nearly jerked in surprise, her eyes immediately seeking out the Blacksmith, though she made sure to make it seem a bored sweep of a glance.
Searching. Analyzing.
This boy? To take the place of the prestigious Third?
He was hardly a breath of a thing, still small and untutoured, unmolded.
Her teeth ran over her lower lip, pulling and chewing as she processed his words. The Headmaster knew the intricacies of these things far better than she, and no doubt had been watching the boy longer, but it was obvious he saw something that Kristiyani Varana had yet to see.
Another measuring glance was spared to the boy, and she spoke, an equally quiet murmur, head turned slightly so that she could meet the Headmaster's eyes with a searching stare.
"He is clumsy now, he will need much preparation. He is but a boy."
Now, Varana, the Headmaster does not make mistakes, she scolded herself internally.
"He will need to develop a spine as steeled as the blades he creates."
