Heka stood out in an open field on the Academy grounds, dressed in his usual clothing made out of the strangely shimmering fabric, making it hard to look at him for too long. His back was straight, his eyes and face hard as a rock and his hands clasped behind his back. With his feet spread shoulder length apart, he looked ready to kill.
Maybe he was.
Of course, Heka wouldn't be allowing or even try to teach these brand new Mesmers how to fight. He wouldn't be training them to disappear and reappear across short distances. No, none of that. That was what the big kids did. And these little pipsqueaks had a long road ahead of them before they got to that point.
No, Heka would be teaching them the most fundamental part of being a student of the eighth. Heka would be teaching them a skill they would use every day for the rest of their lives - a skill they had already been using for quite a while if they were smart.
Heka would be teaching them how to lie.
"In a line, all of you. No! Not behind each other, beside each other you idiots!" Oh yes, already his facade was fading quickly behind him as the students looked at him with wide, shocked eyes.
He looked at them all, one by one, before speaking in a deadly tone. "I am Heka Equidae. You will call me Proffesor and that is all. Outside of class, I am to be known as Heka, and you may smile and laugh and talk to me like we are friends. But make no mistake. Within class time, when I have you to myself, we are anything but friends. You are my little puppets and I am the master puppeteer. You do what I say when I say it and you do not try to play games with me. I'm the master at these little games and I will sniff them out quicker than you can try to cover them up. Try anything to waste my time and you will find yourself buried six feet under the ground with your mother's tears watering the ground above you."
He watched their reactions before continuing. "You will state your name, age and what the hell you think you'll be doing in my classes."
