"Well, I'll be going to the Courtyard. I think I have some librarian duties after that to attend to."
With that, Vin carefully escaped her dorm.
Vincentia took the stairs down, slipping through the hallways quietly. She had no doubts that Aid would be able to follow her- with her aura seeing, it wouldn't be hard to pick out the Lotus.
Pushing open a door and stepping into the outdoors, she fished out the Grimoire and strode towards the center of the courtyard, looking up to the sky and carefully picking out her star. At the center of the courtyard was the lotus, made out of orichalcum cobbles. It would work.
Stepping over to the lotus, she carefully sat in front of the Ninth Petal, mirroring the star high above. With reverence, she placed the Grimoire on the petal in front of her.
"Frigidity. Efficiency. Balance."
The cover of the Grimoire flared with light.
Smiling, Vincentia pulled back her hands. The book flipped open, pages turning, and finally stopped at a certain page. Words the color of starlight shone from the paper.
"What do you seek, my child?"
Oh shoot. This was the Ninth she was talking to. Normally she'd only talk to the first Raven Lotus through the Grimoire. Very rarely did the Dragon of Death speak to her.
"Your wisdom and the serenity of ice."
"Come, you needn't be so formal. I perceive that you are worried about the hold your emotions are getting on you."
Vincentia nodded, her posture a bit more relaxed now. It was always a good idea to greet a god properly.
"You are still above the level of many... but you seek to relax. It is good that you have not forgotten your position."
"How could I?"
"You might be surprised at the number who have failed me. How has your day been going?"
Vincentia half shrugged. The Ninth probably knew about her roommates already. But the god didn't directly interfere with her matters, of course- the Dragon of Death acted more as her mother or father than her friend. However, that didn't mean she couldn't confide in the Ninth.
"Your roommates are irritating you. One is a liar and the other flippant."
The Lotus nodded again, although it didn't require confirmation. Gods didn't need confirmation, but it was the polite thing to do. "I have... tried to be the coldness. I simply felt the need to reconnect with the first teaching before anything became a problem."
She sensed a small amount of pride coming from the Ninth. "You do well. Simply remember that in this game, you shall always come out on top. You are Death. None can escape you- it is only a matter of time."
Vin sat as eager as a child to absorb the Ninth's teachings. It wasn't often that a god talked to someone- normally the Grimoire only brought her the same spirit that inhabited Stormcrescent.
"Patience, my dear. Patience and the ice. You shall soon be bringing death again, my child. Do not fret."
"As you demand, my Master." Vin couldn't help an honest smile. "Thank you for your counsel."
To anyone who was watching, it would look as if she had been talking to a book written in a language that they couldn't understand. The Grimoire flipped closed, and the light faded.
