She listened to his silence, the lack of words more telling than any glance at his face would show her. He was groping for words, looking for something to placate her with.
He knew her far too well to think a simple flower -even if it WAS a gorgeous flower, and she was so very partial to yellow... anyways, he knew better to think a flower could smooth over her frazzled nerves.
"It's golden, just like your hair!"
Oh. That, well...
She felt her smile grow a bit at his sudden words, lips twitching even further upwards against her will.
"I- I thought you might like it."
At the stutter, she felt her smile fade, eyes narrowing.
"I do like it," She says honestly, preparing to follow it with a cutting remark on his negligence in alerting her as to just what he'd be doing once he foisted her off onto the field.
But she was startled out of her words, scowl disappearing as her vision was suddenly filled with the face of her beloved Headmaster...
Looking concerned.
And it was not the usual puppy-dog concern, all shining eyes and cloying smile, that always somehow managed to make her heart jump and her temper throb at the same time.
This look punched her right in the gut, tightening her grip on the flower.
"You've got blood on your face. Are you alright?"
"Yeah..." She trails off, looking uncertainly at the flower for a moment before she returns her gaze to the Headmaster. "It's not my blood, don't worry."
Oh. Yes. The blood.
The fleeting uncertainty was as short-lived as her smile, brow furrowing in annoyance as irritation crept back into her voice.
The scowl returned tenfold, the Principal lifting an accusing finger to point at the Headmaster.
"You knew I'd be busy with those damned beasts for hours, didn't you! I nearly wet myself when I heard that blast, and I swear, I nearly behead a student in my haste to get through those beasts so I could get back here! My poor sword even has a dent in the metal where I rammed it through a feline beast and against a stone wall!"
She nearly pulls out the sword to show him the result of his negligence, but the Principal was no fool. The first sign of a weapon and he'd probably taken off.
So instead, she stands, stiff with anger once again.
He doesn't understand how WORRIED he makes me!
